Somos Spring Branch Launches November Food Drive to Support Local Food Pantry

This November, Somos Spring Branch is partnering with Fair Haven Food Pantry to support hundreds of families facing food insecurity. The pantry now serves 750+ families each week, and with cuts to federal support, demand keeps growing.

We’re rallying our neighbors, small businesses, and schools to help us fill donation boxes across Spring Branch from November 3 – 29. Drop off non-perishable food at participating locations or contact us for a pick-up of larger donations. Every can, bag, and box makes a difference!

Prefer to give financially? Fair Haven can stretch every dollar to buy fresh food for local families.

Introducing Somos Speaks, our new community podcast

We’re thrilled to announce the launch of our new podcast, Somos Speaks: a space for real conversations about community, culture, and organizing in Spring Branch. Each episode will lift up the stories, voices, and local changemakers shaping our neighborhood’s future.

Behind the Mic: A Collaboration with Rice University

We’re honored that the Rice University Digital Media Commons featured Somos Spring Branch on their blog for using their professional recording studio to bring Somos Speaks to life. Their support helped us create a space that truly amplifies community voices with quality and care. 

Somos Spring Branch and Co-Director Virginia Elizondo Featured at Latino Texas PAC Event

Earlier this month, Somos Spring Branch was honored to be invited and recognized by the Latino Texas PAC for our ongoing community organizing and civic engagement work in Spring Branch. Our board joined members of the Latino Texas PAC leadership to celebrate the shared commitment to equity, representation, and community power across Houston and Texas.

At the event, our Co-Director Virginia Elizondo shared her powerful story as the plaintiff in the Elizondo v. Spring Branch ISD voting rights case, highlighting how fair representation and access to equitable governance are essential for all neighborhoods. Her message inspired attendees to reflect on how community voices can shape a more inclusive and just future for everyone.

Standing for Dignity: Somos + Houston LEADS

Somos Spring Branch has joined Houston LEADS as an ally organization to support the Dignity Not Deportation campaign, a collective effort to protect immigrant families and resist unjust deportations across Houston. We’re building a trusted network to respond when our neighbors need us most.

If you want to learn more or get involved, the first step is a one-on-one conversation with a Somos director. Because of the sensitive nature of this work, we’ll start by learning more about your interests and motivations before making volunteer recommendations.
